Tenure Track Position at the Assistant or Associate Level in Childhood Obesity
The Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina is searching for one tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate level to begin August 2019. Candidates are sought who have a strong research focus on topics related to the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity (0-18years) and its associated obesogenic behaviors. We are seeking applicants with interests in one or more of the following relevant topic areas:
Evaluation of interventions for the prevention or treatment of obesity
- Physical Activity
- Pediatric Sleep
- Nutrition
- Screentime
- Families
- Wearable Technologies
- Health Disparities
- Adolescents
- Infants and/or Toddlers
The successful candidate will join a growing and vibrant group of researchers located in the Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health working on issues related to childhood obesity. The candidate will actively contribute to the Arnold Childhood Obesity Initiative, an initiative design to understand and address the complex and multifaceted etiology of obesity from birth to 18. The successful candidate will be expected to aggressively pursue external funding to support their scholarly activities focused on childhood obesity and contribute to the academic mission of the school through teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The University of South Carolina is a Carnegie University of High Research Activity and of Community Engagement. Located in the capital city of Columbia, the University is comprehensive with five Health Science colleges that include the Arnold School of Public Health, the School of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, and the College of Social Work. The Arnold School is composed of six departments and several Institutes and Centers that are focused on specific areas of research including physical activity. The Department of Exercise Science offers degrees at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral level with programs in exercise science, athletic training and physical therapy. The Department’s PhD program has been ranked among the top programs of its kind in the U.S. The Department currently serves over 1200 undergraduate and 150 graduate major students. The Arnold School of Public Health is recognized as a campus leader in interdisciplinary scholarship and has ongoing collaborations with many other colleges and schools at the University. Successful candidates will have an earned doctoral degree in a field relevant to the position, evidence of scholarly research, successful award of (Associate) or evidence of ability to obtain (Assistant) competitive funding to support a research program and to serve as an effective instructor and mentor. Although not required, completion of postdoctoral research training is strongly recommended for those applying at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates with established research programs will be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
