The Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina is searching for one tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate level to begin August 2019. The successful candidate will join a growing and vibrant group of researchers located in the Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health working on issues related to childhood obesity. The candidate will actively contribute to the Arnold Childhood Obesity Initiative, an initiative design to understand and address the complex and multifaceted etiology of obesity from birth to 18. The successful candidate will be expected to aggressively pursue external funding to support their scholarly activities focused on childhood obesity and contribute to the academic mission of the school through teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Successful candidates will have an earned doctoral degree in a field relevant to the position, evidence of scholarly research, successful award of (Associate) or evidence of ability to obtain (Assistant) competitive funding to support a research program and to serve as an effective instructor and mentor. 4th International Workshop on the Statistical Analyses of Multi-Outcome Data

The Fourth International Workshop on the Statistical Analyses of Multi-outcome Data (SAM 2018) will be held at Washington University in St. Louis on June 11-12, 2018 (Monday & Tuesday). The first three meetings were successfully convened in University of Paris VI (2012), Cambridge University (2014), and People's University of China in Beijing (2016). We also have European sister meetings in the University of Liverpool (2017) and University of Manchester in 2019.
Twenty invited speakers (including two keynote speakers, Drs. Jeremy Taylor and Richard Cook) will present interesting topics on joint models, multivariate outcomes, dynamic prediction modeling, and advanced survival analysis methods. There will be a tutorial on the Statistical Analyses of Multi-outcome Data before the meeting. Posters are welcome, and those from students will be entered into a competition.

If you are an early career investigator or know of one who is interested in developing novel ways to improve the sustainability of behavior change interventions, please see the attached notice for an “Innovation Lab” being sponsored by the NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) on “Staying Power: Developing Lifestyle Interventions that Last.”
Innovation Labs place a diverse group of investigators in an intensive 5-day workshop to design creative and audacious new research approaches. Taking up the challenge of maximizing the extended benefits of diet, exercise, and behavior changes will require extraordinary breadth. The goal is to include a wide span of fields including behavioral economics, e-health, microbiome/fecal transplant, bariatrics, exercise physiology, psychology, body composition, drug development/repurposing, food industry, remote measurement/tracking devices, payors and health plans. Imagination is key – early career investigators from any discipline who can bring a novel look at the challenge will enrich the work of the Innovation Lab.
The next lab is hosted by Vanderbilt and will be at the Airlie Conference Center April 23-27, 2018. Applications are now open and will close on February 9, 2018. About 25 applicants who are within ten years of completing a terminal research degree or clinical training will be invited from the pool of applicants.

The Ten Day Seminar is a unique program for physicians, researchers, public health practitioners, nurses, and other health care professionals designed to provide training in new areas of investigation and application of new methods related to the promotion of cardiovascular health and prevention of heart disease and stroke, including descriptive epidemiology, quality of care and outcomes research, genetic epidemiology, policy, and environmental approaches to health.
The overall goal of the conference is to enhance the ability of participants to pursue successful careers related to the epidemiology and prevention of heart disease and stroke, and the promotion of cardiovascular health through development of competencies related to grant writing, manuscript development, teaching, and clinical and public health practice. A select faculty of epidemiologists, biostatisticians and prevention researchers will use interactive learning techniques; including lectures, small group discussions, and tutorial sessions illustrating basic principles of cardiovascular disease and stroke epidemiology, and prevention, and their applications. There will be extensive group participation.
Candidates will ordinarily be at the postdoctoral level and at a point in their careers at which the acquired research knowledge and skills will be used in the near term. Candidates at the master level will be considered based on having the experience and scope of responsibility to enable them to make a significant contribution to the promotion of cardiovascular health or the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Such candidates may include professionals engaged in public health practice at the local, state, or federal level as well as research professionals.

The Departments of Global Health and Exercise &Nutrition Sciences in the Milken Institute School of Public Health (SPH) at the George Washington University are jointly recruiting a tenured or tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor (12 month appointment). Department of primary appointment is negotiable, but the successful candidate will be expected to be engaged in both departments’ academic and research programs.
The SPH has a diverse and growing faculty, with an approximately $80 million research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nation’s capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Agriculture, United States Agency for International Development, and the Food and Drug Administration, as well as the numerous non-governmental and international organizations that are headquartered in DC such as the World Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the Pan American Health Organization, and many others.
The Department of Global Health has faculty with expertise in nutrition, maternal and child health, environmental health, infectious and chronic disease epidemiology and control, health communication, design, monitoring and evaluation of global health programs, medical sociology, demography, and economics. The Department of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences has faculty with expertise in public health nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, exercise physiology, physical activity epidemiology, aging, obesity, and diabetes. The Department of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences offers a BS in nutrition sciences and a MPH in public health nutrition. The Department of Global Health offers three MPH degree tracks, and a DrPH.
Primary responsibilities for the position include an active role in global nutrition research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will bring or develop a successful externally funded research portfolio and devote at least 50% effort to this research, and 50% to teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. It is expected that the successful applicant will conduct applied global field research and collaborate with other faculty in research in this area. Example areas of research in the departments include, but are not limited to, maternal, child and adolescent nutrition, food security, nutrition and chronic disease, dietary intake methods, food systems for health, and community-based nutritional interventions.
Basic qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in nutrition by the date of appointment (e.g. nutritional sciences, nutrition epidemiology, social and behavioral nutrition, nutrition communications), or an allied field such as medicine, epidemiology, behavioral science, or health communication. Applicants must have experience in international public health nutrition with a focus on applied nutrition research, teaching and practice in the context of low and middle-income countries. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of publication in the peer-reviewed literature and evidence of proposing and/or implementing funded research.

The College of Health Solutions and the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion (SNHP) at Arizona State University (ASU) are seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the areas of nutrition therapy or nutrient metabolism. Areas of interest include aging, ingestive behavior, and clinical nutrition. We will also consider exceptionally strong candidates for full professor and exceptionally strong candidates from other fields of nutrition. The candidate will have the ability to work closely with SNHP faculty including nutrition, exercise, and behavioral scientists; epidemiologists; psychologists; and physiologists; in the areas of clinical trial research, behavior change, community-based interventions, food security, food and nutrition policy, metabolism, dietary and physical activity assessment methods development, microbiome, and exercise physiology. In addition, there are opportunities for collaborations with ASU investigators from diverse fields including Global Health, Anthropology (School of Human Evolution & Social Change), Nursing (College of Nursing & Health innovation), Agribusiness, Sustainability (Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability), Aging (Center for Healthy Outcomes in Aging), Biomedicine & Health Outcomes (Biodesign Institute), as well as Population Health at our College of Health Solutions.
The school supports academic programs in Nutrition (NTR), Exercise and Wellness (EXW), Kinesiology (KIN), and Health Sciences (HSC), and has one of the largest Didactic Dietetics and Dietetic Internship programs in the country. Besides multiple undergraduate programs, the SNHP offers programs leading to MS in Nutrition, MS in Nutrition (Dietetics), MS in Obesity Prevention and Management, MS in Exercise and Wellness, MS in Clinical Exercise Physiology, and interdisciplinary PhD in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences.
Responsibilities for this position include developing a successful research program (60% which moves to 40% after two years), teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and mentoring students in research (20% which moves to 40% after two years), and providing service to the program and university as well as to the community and profession (20%). The ideal candidate will present evidence of a successful research trajectory, including a strong publication record and evidence of grantsmanship consistent with rank, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching and student mentoring.
The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances to improve health outcomes through education, research and service.
