Assistant/Associate/Full Professor- Nutrition Program -

(Molecular Nutrition) 

The College of Health Solutions and the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion (SNHP) at Arizona State University (ASU) are seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the area of molecular nutrition focused on nutrigenetic and nutrigenomic causes of metabolic and/or vascular disease. Areas of interest include epigenetics, proteomics, microbiome-gene interactions and non-coding RNA. We will also consider exceptionally strong candidates for full professor and exceptionally strong candidates from other fields of nutrition. The candidate will have the ability to work closely with SNHP faculty including nutrition, exercise, and behavioral scientists; epidemiologists; psychologists; and physiologists; in the areas of behavior change, community-based interventions, food security, food and nutrition policy, metabolism, dietary and physical activity assessment methods development, microbiome, and exercise physiology. The position will be housed within the ASU’s Center for Metabolic and Vascular Biology at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. This setting provides an established collaborative environment between ASU and Mayo Clinic investigators conducting a wide range of research in metabolic biology, including muscle protein metabolism, adipose tissue metabolism, obesity, insulin resistance, cancer, and inflammation. The Clinical Studies Infusion Unit at Mayo Clinic supports human studies that can involve a wide array of invasive procedures.

 

The school supports academic programs in Nutrition (NTR), Exercise and Wellness (EXW), Kinesiology (KIN), and Health Sciences (HSC), and has one of the largest Didactic Dietetics and Dietetic Internship programs in the country.  Besides multiple undergraduate programs, the SNHP offers programs leading to MS in Nutrition, MS in Nutrition (Dietetics), MS in Obesity Prevention and Management, MS in Exercise and Wellness, MS in Clinical Exercise Physiology, and interdisciplinary PhD in Physical Activity, Nutrition and Wellness.

 

Responsibilities for this position include developing an active externally funded research program (60% which moves to 40% after two years), teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and mentoring students in research (20% which moves to 40% after two years), and providing service to the program and university as well as to the community and profession (20%). The ideal candidate will present evidence of a successful research trajectory, including a strong publication record and evidence of grantsmanship consistent with rank, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching and student mentoring. 

 

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. The college’s research programs encompass basic/discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science, and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, the CHS focus is to use

interdisciplinary approaches to addressing the complex systems that underpin all health problems.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD degree in nutritional biochemistry or related field such as genomics, metabolomics, or molecular biology
  • Experience in writing and securing grants:  evidence of grant submissions annually and grant awards commensurate with rank
  • Experience conducting and publishing research:  evidence of annually published peer reviewed articles commensurate with rank
  • Experience teaching courses at the college level:  evidence of successful university teaching in-person and/or online commensurate with rank

  • Expertise in metabolic and/or vascular disease
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with colleagues
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
  • Experience mentoring graduate students in research and publishing

The University of Alabama Medical Anthropology Position

The Department of Anthropology of The University of Alabama, in Tuscaloosa, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in medical anthropology beginning Fall 2018. Ph.D. in Anthropology is expected to be in hand at the time of the appointment. We seek a medical anthropologist whose research focuses on health disparities, broadly construed, and whose interests converge with the biocultural focus of the department. Beyond these criteria, topical and geographic specialization are open, although the applicant should complement existing specialties in the department, and be well-versed in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The successful applicant will have research skills and interests that contribute directly to our undergraduate and graduate programs, with particular reference to our Ph.D. program and its focus on biocultural medical anthropology. The proposed faculty member will have teaching responsibilities that include specific core undergraduate and graduate level classes in cultural, biological, and/or biocultural anthropology, and courses of their own development.  The Department of Anthropology takes a traditional four-field approach to the BA, MA, and PhD degrees, emphasizing two areas of specialization that crosscut sub-disciplines: biocultural medical anthropology and the archaeology of complex societies in the Americas. Vanderbilt Training Program in the Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer

Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Vanderbilt Training Program in the Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer (Vanderbilt MAGEC) is currently accepting applications for postdoctoral fellowships. The fellowship is an individualized didactic training program, tailored to complement the trainee’s background, and includes both core and elective coursework, a multi-disciplinary mentoring team, rotations in the Vanderbilt Molecular Epidemiology Lab and Survey Research Shared Resource, and the conduct of a research project. The fellowship culminates in the submission of a grant proposal to the National Institutes of Health. The goal of the program is to assist fellows in launching an independent career in epidemiological research.

MAGEC fellows have the opportunity to work on a wide range of on-going cancer epidemiological research projects and to design their own, using resources available from the Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center (VEC) and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The VEC is home to three large prospective cohort studies that include over 225,000 participants from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Biological samples are available from over 90% of study participants. The VEC fosters cross-disciplinary research and provides exciting opportunities to investigate the interplay of environmental, lifestyle, and genetic factors in cancer epidemiology and health disparities.

The MAGEC program is specifically designed for:

  • PhDs in epidemiology or genetics who have an interest in cancer research
  • MDs who have an MPH degree or working experience in epidemiology

Public Health Laboratory Science Faculty Search

The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health seeks faculty members to join in the expansion of vibrant, interdisciplinary research and training programs in the laboratory sciences. We have three tenure-track or tenured faculty positions open at the associate or full professor levels and we seek applicants in areas of public health laboratory sciences including nutrition sciences, molecular and system physiology, epidemiology, health informatics, toxicology and exposure sciences, immunology and infectious diseases, genetics and genomics, microbiology, virology, epigenetics, engineering and systems biology. Faculty members will be expected to engage in teaching, mentoring and service and to establish extramurally funded and internationally recognized research programs.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD, MD, ScD or equivalent in a health sciences related discipline and a demonstrated track record of scholarly publications and extramural funding.

Successful candidates will be appointed in one of six academic departments within the School (Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Global Health, Health Policy and Management, or Prevention and Community Health).
